Bloody Sunday report unlikely before 2008

The London Bloody Sunday commemoration at the weekend brought some news of the progress of the Saville Inquiry.

John Kelly, whose brother Michael was killed in the massacre, released some correspondence between the families and Lord Saville, which revealed that the Inquiry is unlikely to report before the end of this year, and may take even longer than that.

Mr Kelly, was philosophical about this, saying "we’re here 35 years. What’s another year or two."

He was more concerned by the fact that inquiry has not decided whether it will return to Derry to deliver its findings, and that the arrangements for publication of the report will be in the hands of the Northern Ireland Secretary.

"We expect to see the report at the same time as the Secretary of State," he said.
