RARELY do diplomatic reports
from the Irish Consul in Edinburgh on developments in Scottish politics
land on the desk of the Taoiseach and the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
But this week a report warrants the immediate attention of the two
Aherns, Bertie and Dermot. It deals with a dramatic sea-change in
Scottish attitudes to national independence that could have a bearing
on the Northern devolution talks that are scheduled to take place in a
Scottish hideaway. (Irish Independent – free reqistration required)
I wonder what the various parties to the peace process make of Scottish developments. Perhaps it is one of the few factors that might favour the DUP opting for an early deal.
