Irish politicians back RTE for Britain

From Irish broadcaster RTE:

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has backed proposals to broadcast RTÉ Television to Irish emigrants in Britain.

Labour’s Emmet Stagg said the issue was a very important one to the Irish in Britain, and the Director-General of RTÉ, Cathal Goan, had told him it was technically and legally feasible, with the only issue being funding.

The fact that RTE has recently joined the Sky platform in Northern Ireland supports the idea that previously cited problems, such as programme rights are not insurmountable.

Well done to Emmett Stagg, who has been at the forefront of the Irish Labour Party’s campaign in support of emigrants, for following through on the issue.
