Lobby for Livingstone

The Black Information Link has launched a campaign to lobby the Standards Board for England in support of Ken Livingstone. The article includes a link which will bring up a draft letter in your e-mail application.

My own view is that the controversy over Livingstone’s remarks is overblown. Calling someone a Nazi might not be very original but its not anti-semitic, and it doesn’t become anti-semitic just because Livingstone declined to withdraw it when he found out the person in question was Jewish.

Livingstone has plenty of detractors, especially amongst his fellow politicians, but he has been consistently popular with Londoners, despite the machinations of both Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair.

I hope this controversy doesn’t become a US style witch-hunt to overturn what is after all the largest personal mandate of any British politician.
