Mystery Iran blast highlights tensions

The mystery blast in Iran earlier today has highlighted the ongoing tension in the Middle East. The US is certain to use the assassination of Rafik Hariri to increase pressure on Syria, which has moved to harden its alliance with Iran.

Amidst such negative signs, its good to be able to post two analyses which suggest open war is unlikely.

In his latest commentary, Immanuel Wallerstein argues that the US is too weak for another adventure. While Ali M Ansari argues in the Daily Telegraph that the Iranians are too clever to resort to war.
