Orwell Award for Clarke

Home Secretary Charles Clarke has won the Yorkshire Ranter’s Orwell Award, after said that the “orchestrated chorus of criticism” of the government over the deportation of suspects to countries where they could face torture smacked of “latter-day imperialism”.
