The folks at the Campaign for an English Parliament blog have spotted a truly remarkable story at the Scotsman.
Apparently, a senior Scottish Tory has called for the party to drop the word ‘Unionist’ from its official title, the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
He said: "There are people who are right of centre but who vote nationalist because they see the nationalists as the party with a Scottish identity. That is not how they perceive the Tories at the present time. We need to work hard to cultivate a Scottish identity."
The Tory insider said one way of doing this might be to drop the name Unionist which had come to represent traditional, unwavering links with England and the Crown, and was perceived as being against change.
Stuart at Independence has a couple of suspects as to who exactly the insider in question might be.
