JOHANNESBURG, July 8 (Reuters) – Eight South Africans suspected of involvement in a planned coup in Equatorial Guinea will face trial next year under South Africa’s anti-mercenary laws, the SAPA news agency said on Friday.
The Pretoria Regional Court set a Jan. 16 trial date for the eight, who were among 61 South Africans deported from Zimbabwe in May after serving out 12-month sentences there on immigration and weapons charges.
