Zimbabwe fails to release mercenaries

Zimbabwe authorities were due to release 62 mercenaries convicted of plotting a coup d’etat in Equatorial Guinea this week.

The Scotsman reports that the prisoners have not been freed on time.

Coup leader Simon Mann will remain in prison as he has another four years to serve.

The Times has a report on the background of the mercenaries, which includes a somewhat tendentious account of the battle of Cuito Cuanavale, seen by man as a turning point in the struggle against Apartheid.
