The first hearing took place yesterday in the health and safety prosecution of the Metropolitan Police over the shooting of Jean Charles De Menezes. The case was adjourned until September 19.
One thing that has struck me about the coverage of the De Menezes case is how little scrutiny there has been of the army’s role compared to that of the police. It will be interesting to see how far that changes during the trial.
In the meantime, I have made a Freedom of Information request with some questions for the MOD on the episode. I will post the answers here when I get them.
