Labour lose popular vote in England

The election results are almost all in for constituencies in Britain now. By historic standards this is a good result for Labour in terms of seats, giving the party an unprecedented third term.

However, the share of the vote looks less good. Indeed, Stuart Dickson at Independence thinks Labour may have lost the popular vote in England, which could have significant implications for a Gordon Brown premiership in particular.
