Socialist policies more popular than major parties?

I was covering the Socialist Party election campaign launch today for the Irish World, as the well-known Dublin TD Joe Higgins was there to support his colleagues in Britain, who include former Labour MP Dave Nellist.

One interesting titbit I learned about was an exercise carried out by Newsnight, which put party policies to members of the public, without telling them whose policies they were.

Apparently, the Socialist Party came joint second, ahead of the three major parties. It will be interesting to see who came first on the programme, due to be broadcast tomorrow.
